I’m just back from London and Minehead, U.K. Peter played in Dublin, Dingwalls in London, and at the ATP Festival (curated by Pavement) in Minehead, Somerset. I went to take photos! Because I have lots of pictures to show you, this is just the first of a few blog posts on the trip. Let’s start with London…
I was in London for a day by myself. I had a great time walking around the city alone and taking photos.
As I was photographing around the city I realized how shy I am about taking personal photos in public. Which is weird because when I’m hired to photograph I lose almost all inhibitions and become this outgoing person. Strange. I also didn’t have people to photograph. Of course there are people everywhere in London, but I only like photographing people if I can interact with them and have some kind of context or relationship. So instead I mostly photographed “things.”
These are some photos from Peter’s (he’s the drummer for Mission of Burma) show at Dingwalls in London. The crowd was great! It was really one of the happiest shows of his that I’ve ever seen. The audiences in the U.K. are very into singing along with the band. It’s wild when you travel so far and there’s a club full of happy people chanting all the words to the songs.
I photographed this guy (below) who was trying to create his own photo montage with a “Boston” card he brought and the band in the background. Sometimes people are so damned cute.
We left London very late and headed straight to ATP, which was four hours away in Minehead. This is our driver, Nathan, at a pit stop showing us some tricks. More photos from the rest of the trip coming up next!
